Insight meditation is a practice of mental cultivation that derives from the 2,600 year old teachings of Siddhattha Gotama, the man known as the Buddha.
It is a holistic approach to developing well being and release from anguish, confusion and stress; and applies to the way in which we live our daily lives, as well as the moment to moment activity of the heart and mind.
The approach is non-dogmatic, aimed at cultivating a sense of inner knowing and responsibility, rather than being a set of views or ideas to be clung to.
As a result, practicing this form of meditation fosters a sense of strength and independence in the heart, as we come to see the way things are clearly for ourselves.
Through practicing insight meditation we develop mindfulness – a positive quality of awareness that we can bring forward into the challenges we encounter in our lives.
Mindfulness frees us from our habitual feelings and reactions and assists us in being more fully open to the aliveness of each moment.
It liberates space within ourselves and naturally promotes self-acceptance and peacefulness.
Through a gradual process of inquiry and self discovery, this practice can assist us in renewing our connection to a sense of sacredness and awakening a heartfelt respect for all life.
